About the Faculty
|
Artistic Director Kim Robards' career spans nearly three decades as a professional dancer, choreographer and teacher. Nationally, she has been hosted for choreographic commissions and residencies with North Carolina Dance Theater, Cleveland Contemporary Dance, Western Slope Music Festival, American Institute of Architects, the Royal Academy of Dancing, University of Charlotte in North Carolina , Bucknell University , Snowy Range Summer Dance Festival, University of Nebraska , among numerous others. Internationally, she has toured France hosted by the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, performed in Japan as part of the International Choreographer's Competition, and taught at Tsoying School for the Performing Arts in Taiwan . Ms. Robards has studied with legendary teachers such as Mary Ann Mee of the Charles Weidman Company, Christine Dakin and the late Tim Wengerd of The Martha Graham Company, and Nada Diachenko, former soloist with the Erick Hawkins Dance Company, among others. She credits much of her early professional growth to notable Colorado-based artists such as Maria Johnson and Steven Chatfield (Directors of VERVE Dance Company which she performed with for five years). Ms. Robards established The KRD School in 1990, currently serves on the faculty of the Academy of Colorado Ballet , and has served on the faculties of Colorado College and Belliston Academy of Ballet. |

LaRana Skalicky (Associate Executive Director) has been a member of KRD since 1988. LaRana earned her BFA in Dance and a minor in Philosophy from Stephens College in Columbia , MO , where she graduated cum laude as a $20,000 Four Year Honors Scholar. She has been a Rocky Mountain Women's Institute Associate, self-produced "Two's Company" in Salina , KS , and had work selected by the Colorado Choreographer's Showcase. LaRana has been a roster artist for the Colorado Artist-In-Residence Program, a Dance Teaching Artist for the Aesthetic Education Institute and a faculty member at The KRD School. LaRana has also danced in works by Doug Varone, Jeff Slayton, Bill Evans, Mark Dendy, and John Mead, among others. She is also a cellist, has a blue belt in Tae Kwon Do, and serves KRD in myriad administrative capacities. LaRana wishes to thank her mentor Kim Robards and her teachers Kay Henderson, Michael Simms, Patrick Suzeau, Muriel Cohan, Ton Simons, Barbara Rinaldo, the late Carol Mezzacappa and her first teacher Vivette Darnell. |
