KRD’s Mission

...is to create original modern dance works which inspire and transform lives through performing and educating diverse communities regionally, nationally, and internationally.

Originally founded in 1987 as Colorado Repertory Dance Company, in 1993 our name changed to Kim Robards Dance enabling us to focus on creating and presenting the original choreography of critically acclaimed Artistic Director Kim Robards, whose work has been performed, acknowledged and successfully received by audiences throughout Colorado as well as nationally and internationally. The refined focus provided the opportunity to develop Robards' strong repertory of viscerally powerful original modern dance works as the artistic product which has engaged audiences within communities as far reaching as rural Colorado to Denver to New York City to Beijing, China.

Robards' teaching techniques are the basis for KRD's award winning statewide educational outreach programs and the foundation upon which The KRD School was established in 1990. The KRD School, provides a training ground for youth ages 6 to18 and adults - beginning through professional level classes - in a variety of dance styles inclusive of modern, ballet, jazz, tap, stretch and strengthen and a special class for women recovering from breast cancer.

KRD’s outreach programs offer on-going classes and well as special sessions. KRD has a history of providing services to special populations, under served communities, economically restricted populations, geographically isolated communities, and at-risk youth. KRD has unique programming for children grades K-12 who have multiple physical disabilities, and incarcerated teen girls at a juvenile detention facility. A new Be Modern. Be Mentored. Program will begin for youth in the Fall of 2010.

In 1990 KRD first secured a home in Denver’s Golden Triangle and in 2005 became the first dance company to have a space at The Galleria at Denver Performing Arts Complex. KRD recently secured a 24,000 sq. ft. permanent home in Denver which will provide opportunities for expanded KRD programming as well as to other cultural entities as KRD develops this cultural center.

KRD has received the State's highest awards for excellence in the arts.
